100 Days of Prep! Today marked 100 days of school at Berwick Chase Primary School for the Prep students. The prep students, and their teachers, dressed up in costumes depicting what they wanted to be when they grow up. The morning session began with the School Captains making a speech addressed to the Preps, congratulating them on achieving 100 days at school. This was followed by the students in Year Five and Six making a Guard of Honour that went from the front entrance up to the prep classrooms. The Prep students excitedly and proudly walked through the Guard of Honour. During the day Prep students counted 100 objects they had brought from home, made a 100 Days of School crown, participated in activities revolving around the number 100 and finished the day with a class party celebration.

The Prep students had a wonderful time walking around the garden collecting autumn leaves. We had a lot of fun collecting the leaves and throwing them high in the air. We talked about the different colours we could see and the crunching noise the leaves made when we picked them up. The students then did some drawing and writing about collecting autumn leaves. Here are some photographs from our day.

It has been a very busy month for our Prep students.

As a way of getting to know each other Prep students have been sharing their ‘All About Me’ bags. Each student was asked to bring 3 important items from home to share with their classmates. Students have brought a variety of items or photographs to school and have enjoyed showing their class mates as well as answering questions. This has been a great way for everyone to find information about each other.

It was a very exciting day when the Prep students participated in their first Berwick Chase Primary School Cross Country event. The weather was perfect for the cross country run and all the students had lots of fun, not only running in their race, but cheering and clapping other students. Some students were fortunate to have their parents cheering from the side of the oval too.

During the last week of term all prep students were very creative and made an Easter hat. This hat was proudly worn on the last day of school at assembly. All the school community cheered our prep students as they paraded around the hall.

Harmony Day saw many students at Berwick Chase Primary School dress up in a costume that represented and reflected their heritage and culture. Harmony Day is a day to celebrate the diversity in Australia. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. Students were also encouraged to wear the colour orange to represent Harmony Day and to show their support for cultural diversity.

Many of our prep parents attended the special assembly on this day.

At Berwick Chase Primary School, we aim to prepare our Prep students for a successful start to their education. We work with local kindergartens and the community to best prepare students for a seamless transition into school. In their first year, we develop routines and independence in our students in a fun and safe learning environment.

Children and parents are encouraged to participate in the transition program in order to explore the exciting programs available at our school.

School Tours: Mondays at 2:45pm and Wednesdays at 9:15am

Prep Chesterfield Farm Excursion

On the 2nd of November, the Preps went on an excursion to Chesterfield Farm. Students had the opportunity to see a range of farm animals, as well as experience feeding them from their hands and some lucky people even got to milk a cow!

Preps’ learning this week

Our lovely ICT captains have interviewed the Preps this week!

They have learnt that the Preps have recently been doing rotational activities in Number. They also also been looking at persuasive writing and exploring persuasive pieces. In Reading, Preps have been learning about summarising and in Inquiry they have been looking at farms.

Today, Preps were found to be playing subtraction games during Maths rotations on iPads. It’s great to see ICT incorporated into the classroom in so many ways.

Parent Helpers and Prep Writing

We are blessed at the Chase to have so many amazing parent helpers offering their time to support students’ learning.

Below is a picture showing some of our parent helpers in Prep and the attachments beneath that are some writing examples from our Preps.

The one page piece is from Mariam and the two page journal entry was written by Sophie. You have to read them!

On Thursday the 4th of August, the Preps, Grade 1’s and Grade 2’s took part in our ‘Mini-Olympics’ to celebrate the upcoming 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

Students represented their houses by dressing in their colours and took part in fun events
such as the sack race, relays, hurdles, ball toss, parachute games and vortex throwing. The activities were run by the 5/6 Captains, who did a great job of explaining the rules of the games and ensuring that everyone had a great time and was displaying sportsmanship.

A big thank you to the P.E. team for organising the day, as well as our 5/6 Captains, parents who helped cheer on our students and, most importantly, all of the students who gave it their all and displayed the Olympic spirit throughout the day!
